Road Runner is a Looney Tunes character best known for its signature sound, "Meep, meep." He gets chased by Wile E. Coyote.

Road Runner is based on the Greater Roadrunner, an animal located in the deserts of the United States. There are some differences, however, as the greater roadrunner does not make any sounds that sound anything close to "Beep, Beep." Road Runner is based on the janitor of the studio that was heard on day making the Road Runner noise (beep beep). the janitor said that the noise Road Runner noise was spelt hmeep, hmeep and not Beep, Beep, which is how it's spelled in print merchandise and cartoon titles featuring the phrase.[1]

Road Runner debuted in 1949 in the cartoon "Fast and Furry-ous," along with Wile E. Coyote. The two became famous for Coyote's back-firing inventions and Road Runner's clever getaways.

Rise to fame

Road Runner and Coyote soon became popular in the Looney Tunes world. One of their cartoons, "Beep Prepared," won an Academy Award in 1961. Later, the duo got their own show. "The Road Runner Show," which was later called "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour," debuted in 1966.

  • "Beep, beep!"(This is the only sound that Road Runner has ever spoken.
